LinkHMS
SaaS Hospital Management System
A market-ready product built from scratch, from discovery and design to compliance and integrations
Short summary
Product: LinkHMS is a market-ready hospital management SaaS for clinics and hospitals, built from scratch.
Goal: To give clinics one system for the whole patient journey, from booking and visits to lab tests, pharmacy, billing, and insurance claims.
Challenge: A clinic runs many connected workflows at once. Every module had to share one patient record, respect each staff role’s permissions, apply insurance coverage to every service, drug, and lab test, and keep patient data compliant with healthcare and privacy standards.
Solution: Full-cycle in-house development: discovery, UI/UX design, development, and QA, plus HL7 FHIR, GDPR, and NDPC compliance and integrations with Stripe and Paystack. Every module runs on one shared design system.
Impact: 40 clinics across Africa run their daily operations on LinkHMS, with 70,000 patient records and 700 clinic staff on the platform.

What’s LinkHMS for?
LinkHMS brings a clinic’s daily work into one place. Receptionists book visits and run the live queue, doctors and nurses keep complete electronic medical records, the lab and pharmacy work from the same orders, and administrators manage billing, insurance claims, staff, and reports, all around a single patient record.
AI in LinkHMS
Patient history. Clear context.
One conversation.
LinkHMS brings a built-in AI assistant into the doctor's workflow. It summarizes the patient's profile and answers questions about their recorded history, so relevant context is easier to find before and during a consultation.

Core features
Schedule and live queue
The schedule shows every doctor’s day on one time grid. Appointments are color-coded by status (unconfirmed, confirmed, waiting, ongoing, completed), and the grid flags conflicts and unavailable slots before a double booking happens. The live queue lists today’s patients with urgency and status, so staff can start or complete a visit, or convert it into an admission, right from the list.
Electronic medical records
Each patient has one medical record that every module reads from and writes to. The summary puts recent visits, lab samples, diagnoses, and prescriptions on one screen, and more than 20 record sections cover the full history: complaints, vital signs, allergies, procedures, analyses, vaccinations, pregnancies, imaging, documents, and more.
Visits and admissions
A visit is a structured form, not a blank note. Doctors record vital signs with BMI calculated automatically, complaints, examination results, diagnoses, procedures, prescriptions, and lab orders in one place. When a patient needs to stay, the visit converts into an admission, and the doctor can generate a visit summary or send it to the patient.
Laboratory orders and results
Doctors order tests from a visit, and the lab team works through a shared order list. LinkHMS comes with default test templates, such as a complete blood count with age-specific reference values, and clinics can add their own custom or manual tests. Results are flagged against reference ranges, files can be attached, and the finished report can be printed or sent to the patient.
Pharmacy and inventory
Prescriptions from visits arrive in the pharmacy with dosage instructions, stock levels, and insurance coverage for each item. Each drug moves through clear statuses, from pending and on review to ready to dispense and dispensed, and the pharmacy can create an invoice or a claim right from the order. Inventory is kept by SKU and can be imported from CSV or Excel, either adding to current stock or replacing it.
Billing and insurance claims
Invoices collect services, medications, and lab tests for a patient and track payment until the invoice is finished. For insured patients, the clinic builds claims to insurance providers and HMOs, and follows each one from draft to submitted, approved, partially approved, denied, or cancelled. Service prices can be set per insurance provider, and coverage is checked item by item.
Operational and finance reports
Clinic owners get operational reports on admissions and visits, patient flow, antenatal care, diagnoses, and laboratory work, plus finance reports on billed revenue, cash collected, and receivables aging. The finance overview compares billed and collected amounts, breaks revenue down by department and payment method, tracks the claim pipeline, and lists the invoices that need attention.
Clinic administration and access control
Administrators set up departments, services, staff, and working hours, and control what each role can see and do. Insurance providers and their prices are managed in one place, and the Integrations area issues API keys with expiry dates and IP allowlists for connecting other systems.
Guided onboarding and subscription management
New clinics sign up on their own and get a setup checklist on the home screen: add services, departments, and staff, then activate a subscription. A short product tour introduces the screens the team will use every day. Subscriptions run on a Stripe integration: clinics choose a monthly or annual plan priced per user, upgrade or cancel right in the app, and pay only for active staff, with seat changes prorated automatically. Paystack is available as an alternative payment method.
Compliance and integrations

- Access tailored to each staff role
- Insurance coverage built into daily work
- Self-serve setup for new clinics
- One consistent interface across modules
Target market
Challenges
- Many staff roles with different permissions
- Dense medical data on every screen
- Coverage rules for each service, drug, and test
- Statuses that stay in sync across modules
A calm, structured interface for busy clinic staff
Clinic staff switch between patients all day, so every module follows the same layout: a side menu, a page header with the main action, filters, and a table or record view. A shared design system of 43 component sets and over 1,200 variants keeps tables, forms, status pills, and schedule cells consistent across more than 480 screens and states.

Technology choice
LinkHMS is written in TypeScript end to end. The backend runs NestJS services on Node.js with MySQL and Redis, and three Angular apps make up the frontend. Hosting on AWS lets LinkHMS run separate deployments for Africa and Europe and add new regions as the product grows.
